Studio News - Sites, There Will Be Changes

Good Morning,

Today we have a bit of news.

It came to my attention yesterday that my computer troubles go beyond a simple corrupted path or file and that there are Gremlins afoot.

After speaking with an Applecare representative, we traced the problem and fixed the issue, sort of.  Part of the problem according to Apple is that my machine is old, and I should get a new one.  No, that is not happening.

However during this technical difficulty I have also found that there are other things I need to do as well.

- The Official Website will be updated and given a fresh look.  Features will still include shopping, but other things like the tutorials may be demoted to a link.

Little Shop of Artists location is closed, and during the summer months we will be more like a vendor than a boutique.  Details have not been worked out, but more on this later.

I try not to get too personal here, but occasionally a discussion is necessary.  My physical issues continue to get worse and makes it very difficult for me to do anything on a regular schedule.  I am in hope that the next course of treatment will allow me to maintain a schedule and get things back on track

There are still lots of beautiful things in the shops.  If there is a page or something you would like to see on the website, all suggestions are welcome.

Thank you for stopping in, The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

New Items at Little Shop of Artists

Good Morning,

We have new items both on line and in the store, just in time for the chilly winter months.

These items are available at handmadeartists.com or at Little Shop of Artists, in the store.

The Alchemists Vessel

Leprechaun

100% Acrylic Yarn, Hand-knit Scarf, 65" long (fingertip length), 7" wide, lush, warm and gorgeous.

Holiday Muffatees - Red and Silver

What's a muffatee?  If you remember your Beatrix Potter, Benjamin Bunny's Mother knit them for a living.  In the Victorian era, central heating did not exist and layering clothing was essential for warmth.  Muffatees, sometimes created from old stockings (socks), are usually a knitted tube, with a hole in the side for your thumb to slip through. Covering the back and palm of the hand, leaving fingers free for tasks.  These are a version of those with variations, the cuffs are ruffled and there are no thumb holes.  Makes for a fabulous pop of color underneath a jacket sleeve.

Camouflage

100% Acrylic Yarn in "Dad's Scarf", by Bernat.  6-1/2" wide x 70" long, this full length is great for him or her or a returning Military member.  Warm, thick and wonderfully squishy this makes a lovely warm accessory for the chilly winter months.

Red Garter Scarf

Knit with a blouche' yarn, the Garter stitch gives this a lovely texture.  Full length, makes a great wrap-around and adds a lively bit of bright color to those grey November morns.

You may find these items by following the links or stop in Little Shop of Artists and try them on, or just have a look.

Thank you for stopping in this morning.

Featured Artists: Wire Witchery

Good Morning,

Today we are back to our featured artists post.

It is my pleasure to share the wonderful work from Sarah Shannon of Wire Witchery.

What Sarah says about her craft:

"The first piece of beading I made was actually a Christmas present from my Mother to my Nana. It was an angel bookmark that had been a class at Craft Warehouse. Mom looked at it, decided it was Oh, so simple and that she didn't actually need to take the class because it was just a matter of throwing a couple of beads on a wire and calling it good, right?

Well... no. As it turns out it's a bit more complicated than that.

But I do so love a challenge.

Eventually, the hobby got a bit out of hand and I was selling my pieces (because no one needs that much jewelry, I don't care who you are). And then I was putting some of my pieces in consignment stores.

With out my noticing, my hobby turned into a business that I'd invested several thousand dollars in materials and tools and a ridiculous number of hours into. This happened over the course of several years, not all at once, but the point being that at some point it stopped being a hobby.

It never stopped being something I enjoyed doing, though."

Some of the things Sarah makes include:

Simple Ear Cuff with Glass Accents

Featured Artist: Blackbird Metalworks

Good Morning,

Today we are going to try something a little different.

Blackbird Metalworks creates Fine Jewelry in sterling Silver and Genuine Gemstones, as well as recycling and up-cycling of your old jewelry.

Showcasing at Little Shop of Artists is a collection of select ready-to-wear pieces.

Let's take a look at some of the up-cycled items for sale.

Black Onyx and Sterling Silver Pendant $95.00

Created from a sterling Silver Money Clip, the metal has been re-worked and folded in the opposite direction and soldered closed.  The Genuine Black Onyx stone was set by hand, the entire piece was hand polished and a chain added to create a pendant.

"Recyclabauble" - $40.00

Crafted from a broken Sterling Silver ring, the shank has been repaired and re-placed and the empty space for a stone has been filled with a pretty electric blue class marble, because it fit the setting.  A US size 9 really is a fun ring to wear, it glows in the shadows and pops in the light.

Here, it is modeled by the designer.

There are other pieces available including necklaces, a very limited selection of Sterling Silver Earrings, Vintage and Handmade Rings, and other pieces like this repaired Vintage Swarovski Crystal Sterling Silver Plated ring in "Amethyst".

Vintage Swarovski Crystal Ring - $40.00

What's New In The Studio?

Good Morning,

Today is usually reserved for new studio items and creations.  However with my plate overflowing with things to do and  places to go in preparation for the Harvest Market,  I have not had an opportunity to be creative.

Today we change that.

I saw someone's interesting art project, and it got me to thinking about how to make my own, only different.  Sometime ago I discussed a cool modeling and sculpting medium called Apoxie Sculpt.  This two part epoxy medium comes in a variety of colors and lends itself well to a variety of applications, sculpting, model fabrication, repair and other uses.

The sample pack I received is still full of wonderful colors and I have a neat idea, probably more difficult in the execution than in the planning and blue-prints in my head.

It takes a while for the material to be ready for use.  After mixing the two parts together waiting for thirty to forty-five minutes is required.  The material is SUPER STICKY and will stick to anything you place it on, waiting the allotted time lets the material set and makes it a bit easier to work with.  We highly recommend using  gloves as the color tends to come off on your hands.

It is also very versatile, you can shape it, cut it, paint it, sand it and adhere it to things you want to decorate or create a unique piece entirely out of Apoxie Sculpt.  Which is what I intend to do, some wire, a wood base and I am good to go!

Example of shaped, textured, painted and sanded Apoxie Sculpt Pendant

We may from time to time pop in with progress pictures this is not an art project that can be finished in a day, but I am excited about the possibilities of what it might morph in to when it is complete.

What are we making?  That is a surprise.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.
