At The Studio

Good Morning,

Happy New Year on and all.

The studio has been in End of Year Mode, and now that we have counted, stocked and organized we're ready to get back to the business of creating wonderful and unique items to adorn yourselves.

Here in Idaho it has been one wintry blast after another, the snow is piled high (finally starting to melt a bit) and it is cold.  Icicles of Doom hang from the roof, it is beautiful and inspirational.

We have been working on new weaves and patterns and colors to please the eye and the wearer.

Shown here in Half Persian 4-in-1 in Bright Aluminum, Dark Green and Violet, and the new weave "Hoodoo Hex", lovely sheet weave creating hexagonal shapes along the length, in Bright Aluminum and Turquoise rings.

Over the next week or two we will be listing these items in the shops and creating more in varying colors.

We hope you'll stop by the shop, website or Social Media pages and see what we've been up to.  Contact us if you have a special request and let's make something wonderful together.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

New In The Studio: Oops Weave

Good Afternoon,

The blog is a little late today, we spent yesterday and most of this morning learning new weaves to entice, delight and surprise you.

Several of the attempts did not work, but undaunted, I will eventually learn those that have me stumped for the moment.  The successes are always fun as well, and this simple and deceptively intricate weave is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Commonly referred to as "Oops" it is also (technically) called European 4 in 1 Unbalanced and / or Reversing Bias 4 in 1.  I like Oops best.

The weave makes a lovely mesh like-pattern, that reminds me very much of garter stitch in knitting.  The tutorial called for 16g 1/4 ID rings.  This makes a large, chunky piece that feels wonderful to the touch and can be created in single or multiple colors and a variety of metals.

Shown here in 16g 1/4" ID and 18g 5/32" ID.  This weave can make a bold and bright statement or be sized down for a beautiful feminine and delicate band.

Shown here in the horizontal position as it would appear on your wrist.  Bright and Anodized Aluminum in Dark Blue and Emerald Green create a pretty wave pattern down the center of the piece.

Shown vertically in Violet, here the Bright Aluminum is used as an edging creating a striking stripe of purple down the middle of the piece.

We are working on both sizes currently and hope to have them available in the shop soon.

Like what you see, but don't want to wait for the listings?  Contact us today with you custom request and let's make something wonderful together.

New In The Studio: Sheet Maille Weave

Hello,

Today I would like share a little about a new weave that will be available shortly in the shop.

Originally called GSG or Great Southern Gathering created by "buddha", the name has been changed to Half Persian 3 Sheet 6 in 1, a variant of the Half Persian 3-in-1 Chain.  More information is available on M.A.I.L. by clicking the link.

This weave is not difficult, but like many, there are those that give me trouble from time to time, this was one.  I enjoy making short lengths of a weave in different ring sizes for comparison and design ideas.  Shown below are samples of what I have been learning.

(Clockwise) Shown here in "swatches" of anodized aluminum  (purple, green and gold), bright aluminum and jewelers brass, and stainless steel rings.
(Your monitor may vary color)

This weave would make a great bracelet, necklace or perhaps a decorative piece of art.

In hope of having items crafted and listed soon.

We take requests.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Changes To This Blog By Google

Good Morning,

Tuesdays are usually reserved for Five Great Gifts ides, but today I want to share some information about the changes Google will make to the blog, which are out of my control.

Note/Message Box from Google

"By September 29, 2016, the Search Box gadget on this blog will only present search results from this blog. Search results from pages linked in your posts, from the Web or from the Blog List and Link List gadgets will not be presented anymore.

We recently announced that the Google Feed API would be retired. As a result, the Slideshow gadget will no longer function, and we will remove it from your blog by September 29, 2016."

What does this mean for this blog?  I don't know. I do not think I have Widgets or Gadgets installed on this blog as they describe above, but I will be in the process of making sure that external links, and shared links remain accessible.
The slide show gadget no longer being available is disappointing, but there can only be so much room on a server to support such things.  So it will be missed.

The Alchemists Vessel hopes that you will continue to pop in to the blog from time to time and see what we're sharing, creating and selling.

Thank you for your continued support, we couldn't do this without you.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

New In The Studio - Earrings

Good Morning,

Today's blog is brief.  I would like to share a piece I created for a challenge offered to a group I belong to on Facebook.  Challenge accepted.

The challenge: make a piece of jewelry based on a song.  Not as easy as it sounds.

I chose "Spooky Little Girl", by The Zombies.  How could I resist?  Halloween is right around the corner and I have a penchant for things dark and eerie.

Created from 925 Sterling Silver wire, genuine Jet and Amber beads with Sterling Silver Bat charms.  These have not been listed, as I am waiting for the end of the challenge to make them available.

This was a fun project and I thoroughly enjoyed making them.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.  The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

What Do You Do?

Good Morning,

Today I would like to touch on a subject that many fellow artists find hard to define.   There is a question that all crafters and those that sell their wares to the public are asked on a constant basis "Did you make that?" and occasionally followed by "What do you do?"  Now there's a toughie.

The answer to the first question is "yes"; the answer to the second is not that simple.  I sat down the other day and asked my self that very question.  What do I do?  And the answer surprised me, because I'm not just a jewelry designer.  If I was to write out what I do, like a resume, some of the positions I hold would be as follows:

CEO - Chief Executive Officer
President / Sole Proprietor
Accountant
Buyer
Operations Manager

Social Media / Marketing Manager
Advertisement
Production Manager
Sales Manager
Customer Service Representative
Mail Room
Janitorial Services (OK, that one is for fun, but I still have to clean up the studio).

As a one woman three ring circus, I do not have employees, these positions or more importantly their work falls to me, and only me.  In there somewhere I am also the Jewelry Designer.  When you own your own business, whether hobby or career you find yourself in one or more of these roles daily.  You do more than you know.

So what do you do?

New Items in the Shop: Gemstone Necklaces

Good Morning,

Today I would like to share several new pieces in the shop.  Great for men or teens, rockers, bikers, Viking Warriors or Thanes of the Realm.

These items are available at both our The CraftStar and Etsy Shops.

Mechanix Genuine Hematite and Pyrite Necklace

Masculine and understated is this very muted color genuine Hematite and Pyrite necklace. Perfect for the Mechanic, Warrior or Musician in your life.

Genuine Hematite and Pyrite alternate around the 18" length of metal Tiger Tail beading wire. Finished with a Lobster Claw clasp.

Pyrite is a very protective stone, shielding the user from negative energy of all kinds. Pyrite blocks energy leaks and mends auric tears. Carry Pyrite in your pocket to protect you from both environmental pollution and physical danger. Pyrite also promotes good physical health and emotional well-being.

Hematite from the Greek "haema" meaning blood, due to the red color seen on the surface of the stone before cutting and polishing. Containing mainly iron, it is found in both crystalline and rough forms. Warriors carried this stone as they thought it made them invulnerable and indestructible.

Hit The Lights Genuine Jet and Camostone Bead Necklace

"Hit the lights!" The words every concert goer longs to hear, it means the show is starting! This masculine and handsome necklace would be perfect for the stage. Matte black Jet beads separate the unique type of Jasper called Camostone (it looks likes camouflage).

Jet is not actually a gemstone, but a "Stone" created of Fossilized Wood, sometimes called a "mineraloid", due to its organic origins.

Jasper is an impure variety of silica, usually ranging in color from reds and browns to greens.  Jasper has been thought of as a stone of protection.

18" total length. Genuine Jet and Camostone (Jasper) beads are laced on Tiger Tail beading wire and finished with a Lobster Claw clasp with extension chain.

Metal Genuine Jet and Pyrite Necklace

Genuine Jet and Pyrite beads chase each other along the 18 length of this heavy duty necklace. Masculine and handsome.

Genuine Jet and Pyrite beads are strung on Tiger Tail beading wire and completed with a Lobster Claw Clasp.

Bass Solo Genuine Brecciated Jasper and Pyrite Necklace

Part of our Gems for Gents line of jewelry, this masculine and attractive necklace is very handsome, and would be appropriate for women as well, it hangs at 18" total length. A beautiful flat oval Brecciated Jasper Bead is centered and framed by oval shaped Pyrite, the intermittent pattern of Jasper and Pyrite continue around the length of the necklace.

Genuine Brecciated Jasper (Red Jasper with Black Matrix), and Pyrite beads are strung on Tiger Tail beading wire and completed with a silver base metal Lobster Claw clasp.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold

Good Morning,

Today's blog is brief.  The Alchemists Vessel has a new material, Faux Gold, lovely aluminum rings in gold tones / color.

Like the look of maille, but don't want all the weight?  Aluminum is a perfect alternative.  Many weaves can be made with this fun and lightweight material and they look great too.

Seen here is 16g Faux Gold and Purple rings, anodized aluminum comes in a variety of colors.  Celtic Star Pendant.

Currently available in Celtic Visions Bracelets as well.

Many of the items in the shop may be made with Faux Gold rings instead of the Natural (silver) aluminum, stop by and choose your favorite.  New items are listed often, bookmark, favorite, like or follow us for all the latest products.

Weave options include: Dragonscale, Box Chain, and Celtic Visions designs in color combinations.

The Art Abandonment Project: Create and Share Random Acts of Art

Good Morning,

Today we're going to do something a little different. Instead of sharing five items, artists can share their items, Guerrilla style.

I found this in my my Blog Feed, originally posted by The Brooklyn Bead Goddess, I wanted to share it with you as well, and perhaps inspire fellow artists to try it out.

You may also join a group on Facebook, link provided, to share your adventure if you would like.

The book is titled and may be found on Amazon:

1. All you have to do is make a piece of art. (as simple or as elegant as you like)

2. Write a little note on it explaining that it is a gift
Also mention that if the finder would like to share info about its fate they can contact you directly i.e. email. Then you can share the info with us if you are so inclined. Its not a bad idea to leave you're web address contact info…you never know…you might have created a new patron.

3. Photograph what you're leaving behind

4. Then leave it…walk away…run…try not to get caught.

Then on Facebook share the location and photo of your gift with the rest of us. Here's the group address: http://www.facebook.com/groups/ArtAbandonment/

Keep your fingers crossed that someone lets us know what became of it. I doubt that everyone will take the time to inform the group. A few artists have already been contacted by the "finders".

The basic idea of this Facebook group is simple:
  1. Create a piece of art
  2. Photograph the art…preferably in the location it will be left.
  3. (Optional) Leave a contact tag, so that the “finder” can get in touch with the “abandoneer” if they choose to..
  4. Post the photograph on the Art Abandonment Facebook Group
  5. Wait.  With any luck the “finder” will make contact.
  6. If contacted by the “finders,” post the response on the Art Abandonment group page
  7. Repeat.

I should mention that I do not belong to the facebook group, and do not intend to join. I thought this was a wonderful way to either promote yourself, or do something fun and different and bring a little joy to another.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Studio News: New Shop On Facebook

Good Morning,

Today I would like share a little bit about the new feature on Facebook: Shops.

Business pages now have to option to build a shop right on their fan page, no clicking through or signing up for other websites, you can shop directly on Facebook, provided your favorite page has set one up.

Payment processing is provided by Stripe, and requires credit or debit cards,  just like other services.  It is safe, secure, and simple.

You can find the Shop on the left-hand side menu as you scroll down the page.  It will look like this:

You may click SHOP and it will take you to the entire selection of products, or you may click a single item and view it, as well.  There are also shop collections where you can view featured items, as well as all of one type of product.  You may also click the See More Items, and will be able to select the collection, feature or item of choice for shopping or purchase.   The Alchemists Vessel has three collections currently available to browse.  More items are being added daily and will appear after Facebook has reviewed them.

In hope that some of you might like to take a look, or that the information will be helpful to other small shops on Facebook.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Pantone Color of The Year for 2016

Good Morning,

This morning's post is brief, as we introduce Pantone's Color of the Year for 2016, there are two.

Basically they are pastel pink and blue.  Nice, but not very designer friendly, unless you design for children under five.

Although there is a gemstone Rose Quartz that can be found occurring naturally as a very soft pastel pink, it can also be dyed to a uniform deeper color.  The Alchemists Vessel carries a limited selection of Rose Quartz Jewelry.

This bracelet has sold, but as example of the very soft pink color of the natural stone.

Or you can always go with good old pink.

Precious Time Chainmaille Watch

Pastel Blue is a bit harder, about as close as the artist can get to it is Turquoise, or Blue Lace Agate, light blue Czech Glass beads in colors like "aqua" or "ice blue".

Blue Lace Agate Sterling Silver Earrings

2016, is going to make for interesting color combination and jewelry design.

In hope you have enjoyed this brief look at next year's favorite colors.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.  Don't forget to stop  by the shop and see what is available.   Looking forward to serving you this year and next.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.
