Good Morning, Today's blog is very brief. The link below will take the reader to an Etsy blog post. Etsy has decided to remove the Treasury feature from the site. All though current treasuries will remain up, no new treasuries will be allowed after October 5, 2016. You can find the information here, along with links to other ways Etsy claims to help the seller and the buyer market and find items. An Update About Treasuries On Etsy

Hand painted with
acrylic, and finished with satin acrylic varnish, there's no need to
worry about the rain. They can be wiped clean with a clean damp cloth
too.
This enormous cutie is
made just for you to adore, he is so soft and huggable you could even
use him as a body pillow! He is the perfect addition to any
nautical-themed playroom or nursery. You don't even have to be a kid to
want to cuddle up to one of these, even adults find him irresistible to
touch and play with! And, at 7 feet long, from the top of his fins to
the tip of his two long arms, boy what a conversation piece he is!
This
big buy can be made in just about any color combination. Just select
your color preference before checkout! If there is a color combo you
don't see simply select "custom color" and put it in the notes and I
will be happy to accommodate you. Also, I always use a sucker side
fabric with some sort of dot or circle pattern so the underside of the
tentacles looks like suckers.
Your giant squid plush can be made
with plain eyes, cute anime eyes as shown in the last photo of the pink
squid, or with one giant eye in the front like the red squid in the
fourth photo. At this time Etsy only allows for 2 drop down variations,
so please list your eye style preference in the "Notes to Seller" area
at checkout, thanks! If you do not list a preference I will give your
squid the plain eye style.
Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for the
making of your amazing giant squid plush as he is quite large and takes
some time to complete. As always, my creations come from a smoke and pet
odor free home.
Do not be alarmed at the seemingly small size of
the shipping box! The bulk of these guys is mostly stuffing, so I curl
them up into a 12"x12"x12" box to save you money on shipping!

Good Morning, The Alchemists Vessel takes the day to remember those that have fallen to keep our freedom, and to keep us safe. Every male in my family has served in all branches of the military, Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy. I thank them for their service.
Good Morning, Today I would like to touch on a subject that many fellow artists find hard to define. There is a question that all crafters and those that sell their wares to the public are asked on a constant basis "Did you make that?" and occasionally followed by "What do you do?" Now there's a toughie.
The answer to the first question is "yes"; the answer to the second is not that simple. I sat down the other day and asked my self that very question. What do I do? And the answer surprised me, because I'm not just a jewelry designer. If I was to write out what I do, like a resume, some of the positions I hold would be as follows:
CEO - Chief Executive Officer President / Sole Proprietor Accountant Buyer Operations Manager Social Media / Marketing Manager Advertisement Production Manager Sales Manager Customer Service Representative Mail Room Janitorial Services (OK, that one is for fun, but I still have to clean up the studio). As a one woman three ring circus, I do not have employees, these positions or more importantly their work falls to me, and only me. In there somewhere I am also the Jewelry Designer. When you own your own business, whether hobby or career you find yourself in one or more of these roles daily. You do more than you know. So what do you do?
Good Morning, A couple of weeks ago I mentioned, and tried to assist Etsy Vendors with the new shop design Etsy was to roll out, April, 05, 2016. Instead I was greeted yesterday with an invitation to open a new website via Etsy's new partners "Pattern." This is not the new shop design / look I was expecting to see.
I want Etsy to be honest and up front. That is how I do business, and that is what I want. I don't want Etsy to manipulate me, or surprise me. That is not good business. If Etsy says they are rolling out the New Display Format on April 05, and instead, rolls out a New Website Program, it makes me uncomfortable.
Since Etsy entered the NY Stock Exchange a year ago, the emphasis of Etsy has shifted from a truly "global handmade market place", and is now all about the numbers, and how things look to investors and share holders.
Congratulations Etsy Vendor, you no longer work for yourself, you are now what amounts to an "Associate". Your hard work has been erased and devalued in an attempt to curry favor on paper for those that have nothing to do with your business or your art-form.
I came across another vendor's worries and questions as well, and thought I might share them with you. Their name has been withheld for privacy reasons.
This Newly introduced Patterns website is a way for Etsy to multiply the numbers, on paper, without having to expand their client base. Before you just jump into this website, because it is free for one month, think about this:
*What are your priorities as Artist's and business people?
*On a stand alone Website, am I really interested in paying 3.5%, plus transactions fees, plus monthly fees?
(Information: To list on this new site it is as follows a one time $13.00 fee for a domain name (unless you have your own already, these can be purchased from other domain services for as little as $0.99), a $15.00 monthly service fee, as well as the $0.20 listing fee for each item listed in a shop.) The seller's profit margin has dropped dramatically at this point as the seller will be paying any number of fees, including the percentage Etsy takes for the sale of the item.
If the item is $30.00, a seller has paid .20 for the listing, the item is now 29.80, the seller pays the 3.5% of sale to etsy ($1.05), the item is now 28.75, the seller pays the $15.00 monthly fee, the item is now $13.75. Fees have eaten over 50% of of the item's cost. That's not good any way you add it.
* Does Etsy's newly stated International Sales policies to EU countries, including "Seller pays all shipping fees when an EU Buyer requests a Return and Refund, including initial shipping'', impact the new website?
Will it be enforced?
*Does the Seller control the contents of their new website, or are listings criteria controlled by Etsy?
*Can a Seller list whatever they want, as they can on other free standing websites? and If so, how does that affect Etsy shops?
*Where is the New Format?
*What is Etsy doing to support the Sellers, and increase sales for the Sellers?
The website is for Etsy, it creates higher numbers, and a new stream of monthly revenue for Etsy. For the Seller, it simply duplicates the sellers shop, which is not necessarily a boost for Sellers.
I would rather see an actual increase in shop Sales, as a benefit for both Sellers AND for Etsy. When Sales increase, Etsy's revenue actually increases.
Sales should justify paying Etsy for marketing our shops, etc. This is something Etsy simply does not do.

Good Morning, Today I would like to share a little bit about the mobile app for sellers. The Sell on Etsy App is a downloadable application for mobile phones that lets you interact with etsy in a different way. Instead of listing an item, you may share a photo and brief note about what you are doing, what the item in the photo is, or your creation process (piles of jump rings, lengths of wire, blobs of clay, you get the idea). It is fairly simple to use, and it actually does do its job. I have used the application three times to post a photo to etsy, and share it other places as well and Shop views have gone up. That is nice. Available for both Apple, and Android systems, scroll to the bottom of the etsy Home page and find the Mobile Apps link, it will take you to the Apps page, it is the third item down from the top. You may also wish to add the Etsy app which will allow you to shop the site as well. After download, you may open the app and choose Dashboard (or that may be the default window), here you can see your Shop's Activity, Stats (views and sales) or the Sell Now feature which allows you to sell an item from your shop right from your phone. Tap the Dashboard Menu at the top of the screen, a new menu will appear and you may choose Shop Update from the list. You will be taken to a new screen (depending on your phone icons and screens may vary), where you will be asked to upload a photo. You may choose one from your phone or from another source (mine suggests "documents"). Select the photo you would like to share, adjust your photo or continue on by touching "next". Here you can tag a listing from your shop, tap the photo and select from the items listed, and touch "next" on your screen. You will see a small orange tag with an E in it, like a price tag on your photo. Now you may enter a description or note about your photo. Touch "Done", Touch Share on Etsy. Your photo will post to etsy, you can view it on your homepage under "Updates from shops you like". You may also choose to share your photo on Social Media sites, a new window should appear after your photo has uploaded, asking you if you would like to share the photo elsewhere. Facebook, Google, Twitter, and other sites will be available, select your favorite and you done.
Thank you for stopping in and having a look. In hope this brief look at the app has been helpful.

Beautiful, elegant, unique and one of a kind half moon Howlite Turquoise stone.
Approx size 29x14x5mm
Turquoise is one of the oldest protection amulets, and was also known as a symbol of wealth in many ancient cultures.
If
given a turquoise by a loving friend, that stone would protect the
wearer from negative energy and bring good fortune. The turquoise is the
symbol of friendship. It also brings peace to the home.
This stone is a very personal and meaningful stone to one who wears it. Turquoise takes on the characteristics of the owner.

Good Morning, This morning I wanted to share some wonderful tips from another blog post on finding your Target and Niche Markets. I have left out the personal story that accompanied the original post and have tried to leave it at just the tips. Links are also included. Originally posted by Brenda Lavell in August 2013, it has just been re-posted or circulated on Etsy as of last week. I hope you will find the information useful.
The Difference Between Target and Niche Markets
Target market is
a group of potential customers who share characteristics related to
your product. For instance, “knitters” could be my target market.
Niche market further
defines a target market. For instance, “beginning female knitters who
love Etsy, ages 20 to 35, living in New England” is more defined.
When you define and understand your niche market, you can target your marketing efforts to that group of people.
Narrowing Your Niche Market
Further defining your niche market is crucial to
finding your actual ideal customers — those who will become true fans
for your business and products. A true fan wants to hear everything
about your business, including sales, tutorials, and new product
launches. Posting product links 24/7 to thousands of
non-targeted social media followers is unfocused and not likely to
attract very many buyers. However, offering Coupon Codes for your mailing list of ideal customers is targeted and very likely to result in many sales. I don’t need to tell you that promoting your business
all day long is exhausting — it’s a lot of work for little return.
Promoting is about me me me — your products. Marketing is about you — your customers’ needs and problems. When you know who those customers are, you know or can more accurately guess their needs.
How to Find Your Ideal Customer(s)
A target market is a group of characteristics, not a
person. You can personalize your target market by creating your very own
ideal customer, a fictional character with individual, human
characteristics — a true fan that you make up on paper or just in your
head.
Then, instead of marketing to a group of people, you market to just one person, your true fan.
Get the Ideal Customer WorksheetTo
create this ideal person, you need to dive deep into this persona’s
psyche. There really is no right answer to who this person is, as long
as your creation makes sense (for example, “a super modern fashionista
who doesn’t knit” does not make sense for my yarn shop). Use this target market worksheet template to help you create your own ideal customer.
Once you’ve created your ideal person to market to,
make sure you truly understand your customer’s needs and problems. How
do your products fulfill and solve both? Your marketing should
successfully connect your ideal customer’s problems with your products.
Engaging With Your Ideal Customer(s)
Write everything specifically to your ideal customer,
from product descriptions to blog posts to emails. Use your customer’s
perspective and address his/her needs and problems in your own voice.
Let’s work through an example:
Jewelry is a huge category on Etsy. Jewelry lovers
have different needs (for example, metal sensitivities) and problems
(for example, the perfect earrings for a special date).
How do you connect with your ideal customer who is a
true fan of your particular style and construction of earrings, while
addressing both her needs and problems?
First, make sure your photos are truly stunning, and
that your text and keywords are specifically written to your customer
from his/her perspective, using your authentic voice. Success Tips: Read
these photography pointers and How to Write Enticing Item Descriptions.
Write blog or other social media posts that engage
(about how you problem-solve, behind-the-scenes glimpses, etc.), with
keywords specific to your customer and links to your products. Success
Tip: Read these social media tips.
Use your mailing list to draw people back to those blog posts as well as to your products directly.
Balance links to your products with valuable content.
When your potential customer turns into a real
customer, start building actual relationships. Learn about their
interests and needs by talking with them via your Facebook business page
or at craft shows. You’ll be able to further refine your niche market
while turning one-off customers into repeat buyers.
I thought there was a “trick” to finding your target
market, then learned that finding my target market is just a process.
Defining my ideal customer was key, as well as effectively engaging via social media.
You can find your own target market by creating and
engaging with your ideal customer — I’d love to hear your insights and
questions in comments.

Handmade Mosaic large Lazy Susan. I found this vintage Lazy Susan which had been discarded for its terrible looks. I
sanded, primed, and painted it white, distressed it a bit, covered the
top with a handmade Mosaic made from already damaged cut up vintage fine
bone china plate rims and stained glass. The mosaic also has two lil
porcelain girls in them who used to have a couple of feather angel
wings, which I removed. The mosaic is grouted in a antique white grout
and sealed. It still turns very nicely, as a lazy susan should. Measurements: 16 inches in diameter and 2 inches high Uses are endless, one can use it for the obvious in the dining room now for your condiments, napkins etc. In your office for your pencil holders, scissor, the cup with pens, scotch tape and such.... In the baby's room for the powders, creams, wipes and lotions, one turn around and everything is right handy. I
am sure one can find even that your cup cakes look fabulous on them,
even a cake. Or just set it on the counter and have your guest admire
your treasure. Thank you for looking

Today the blog has some helpful hints for listing those wonderful handmade items you create. Let's begin with Titles and Tags. Depending on where you list your items, character count and number of tags may vary, but the process is the same. Choose a title for your item.
Does it have a name? Many artists choose to call their piece something, names like "Emma", "Aurora", "Bob" to differentiate one piece from another, things like, "Paramour", "Enchantress", and "Princess" work just as well.
What is it? Bracelet, Earrings, Painted Box, Etched Glass? Be sure to be specific.
Helpful Hint: Many sites have crawlers or bots that will pick up on words in your title, their own little SEO searchers, make sure everything is spelled correctly. Check out the sites categories and try to include one word in your title that matches the category you would like your item to be found in. Spelling, spell-check does not catch all errors and even insists words are wrong if it does not recognize them. Take the time to check your spelling, and double check those triple score words, like Labyrinth and Cephalopod, twice. Example: Fafnir Chainmaille Silver and Gold Dragonscale Bracelet
*It doesn't have to have a name, Chainmaille Bracelet works just as well, or you may include the name at the end of the title instead: Chainmaille Dragonscale Bracelet - Fafnir
Tags: Tags should reflect the above, and they should also be descriptive if possible. Ask yourself these questions when thinking about tags: What is it? Who is it for? What does it do? What color is it? What is it made from? Is it a particular fashion or style?
Helpful Hint: Include words from your title in your tags as well. If your stuck you can also use words like: "traditional", "modern", or "classic".
Photography: Is it necessary to have a professional take your photos? No, many do, but most handmade artists are also the photographer. Getting that perfect shot is tough and there are all kinds of how-tos around the web. Here are a couple of more suggestions.
Do not use your cell phone. Just no. Although the picture looks great on the phone's screen it will not translate well to a site and will look blurry and out of focus. If you must use your cellphone, get a "selfie stick", this will help steady the phone for a better picture. Go through the phone's photo settings, many times the app has different size settings, use them, they will help. Use at least four pictures, even if two are kind of the same. Try to shoot the item from different angles, both sides, from the top down, on a different background and a close up of the detail.
Helpful Hint: Get to know your digital camera. Does it have a MACRO setting? The Macro setting is used to magnify and capture very small things in focus and detail.
Example: Tiny Frog-Prince Charms
Almost there. You have a title, tags, and a photo. Now comes the hard part, the description. Should it be long or short? What information should be included? What does one say about the item?
Does it have a story? You can make one up. Where did it come from? What did it experience on its journey? What can the customer expect from the piece? Is it heavy? Light weight? Comfortable?
Take the time to jot down words on a list that you can refer to when listing the item and construct a simple sentence around it.
Example: This pair of earrings is light weight and comfortable enough for all day wear.
Completed Listing Example:
