Good Morning,

Today the blog is brief, as my relatives are here for the holiday.

Jewelry Class is a blast.  Two and an half of hours of fun and creativity.  Class is held every Saturday from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., the goal, to go home with a completed project.  Here we see a sample of some of the jewelry-making supplies / demonstration materials supplied by Little Shop of Artists.

From Left to Right and Back to Front:
Simple Chain and Pendant, samples of bracelets, Chainmaille Necklace Earring Set, Simple Drop Earrings, "Illusion" Necklace and Earring Set.  A variety of tools, pliers, mandrels, findings and a selection of wire.  Yes, we can make jewelry with these items.  (Not shown, components, stones, beads and drops and charms).

Tools, all that is really required is a pair of pliers or two and perhaps a wire cuter and a mandrel, if you wish to wind you own wire for jump rings.

Clockwise from the top: Flat-Nosed pliers, graduated mandrels, Chain-Noses pliers and a straight mandrel in 5mm.

Projects include: Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and simple techniques are taught.

Today we are back to our featured artists post.  

It is my pleasure to share the wonderful work from Sarah Shannon of Wire Witchery.
 

What Sarah says about her craft:

"The first piece of beading I made was actually a Christmas present from my Mother to my Nana. It was an angel bookmark that had been a class at Craft Warehouse. Mom looked at it, decided it was Oh, so simple and that she didn't actually need to take the class because it was just a matter of throwing a couple of beads on a wire and calling it good, right?

Well... no. As it turns out it's a bit more complicated than that.

But I do so love a challenge.

Eventually, the hobby got a bit out of hand and I was selling my pieces (because no one needs that much jewelry, I don't care who you are). And then I was putting some of my pieces in consignment stores.

With out my noticing, my hobby turned into a business that I'd invested several thousand dollars in materials and tools and a ridiculous number of hours into. This happened over the course of several years, not all at once, but the point being that at some point it stopped being a hobby.

It never stopped being something I enjoyed doing, though."

Today we are going to take a quick look at an item in store and have details for Bird's Nest Wire Wrapping Class, as taught by Sarah Shannon of Wire Witchery.

Captured Color Chainmaille Bracelets $30.00 each or two (2) for $45.00, now through November 30th, 2013 at Little Shop of Artists

Created using Silver-Plated or Gunmetal Tone (over Copper) outer rings and anodized aluminum rings, these lovely bracelets come in a variety of colors to match your mood, outfit, or team.  Ranging in length from 7 - 8.5", bracelets may be shortened or lengthened for a custom fit.  Magnetic clasps close the bracelets, and may be changed out to a toggle or clasp style of choice.

Sarah says it takes about 30 minutes before the pieces can be moved after gluing backing (post) into place, the last half of class will be used to allow the glue to dry while the pendant project is being worked on.

Andrea wire wrapped necklace in sterling silver

A handmade, classic wire wrapped pendant with a twist, literally :-). I created the wire wrapped focal pendant using sterling and fine silver. A dainty and classic piece that can be worn for any occasion. The wire wrapped pendant measures 0.75" in diameter, and hangs on a beautiful 16" sterling silver chain.
Please let me know if you would like a longer chain. An extenter can be added or The chain can be adjusted free of charge ( up to 20 inch total chain length).

Raspberry wire wrapped necklace hot pink

This handcrafted wire wrapped necklace is really feminine and fun, featuring a 20 x 15 mm Bright Pink Jade Faceted Teardrop Bead. The necklace has been wrapped in sterling silver and fine silver and hangs on a 16" long sterling silver chain. A spark of color to cure the winter blues.
Please let me know if you would like a longer chain. An extenter can be added or The chain can be adjusted free of charge ( up to 20 inch total chain length).

Tutorial Dhalia wire wrapped necklace focal

This listing is for a tutorial only, materials are not included. This is an intermediate project that requires basic knowledge of wire handling. Learn a new wire wrapping technique while creating a beautiful and elegant necklace focal component. The tutorial will shows you how to shape,form,weave the wire to construct your your focal necklace component.
The tutorial will give you the list of tools and materials and clear step by step instructions illustrated by pictures, and tips along the way to help you complete the project successfully.

Materials:
18 gauge half hard round wire
26 gauge fine silver round wire
20 gauge wire
24 gauge dead soft wire
14 inches of chain
2 split rings
1 lobster clasp
1 briolette bead about 18 mm long
2 small beads ( 4mm)

Tools:

Round nose pliers
Chain nose pliers
Flush cutter
A ring mandrel or thick dowel
Raw hide mallet ( optional)
Fine point sharpie marker

Studio R and D - Alcohol Inks Have Arrived

Good Morning,

Happy Hump Day to you all.  The middle of the week brings me to the past couple of days of Research and Development with a new technique.

Several weeks ago I visited with a friend and fellow artists who was kind enough to allow me a to try out her new Alcohol Inks.  These work on metal, paper, glass etc... they come in a variety of colors and manufacturer brands.  I could not find the brand she was using, but came across similar colors in trios by Adirondack.

Left to Right:  "Brights" in Watermelon, Citrus and Lake.  The other package is in Spanish, Woodland or Farmers Set in Raspberry, Forest and Plum.

The process is a messy one, and trial and error should be employed carefully.  Gloves should be worn, this is ink and it will dye / stain any thing and everything it comes in contact with.   These tiny feather charms are done in Forest and make a very pretty finishing touch for bracelets or earrings, appropriate for a pendants as well.

Soon to be incorporated into items and available in the shop.

The technique is super simple, as shown in the brief video below.



 

Also in new in the studio are these simple and very pretty Memory Wire and Glass beaded bracelets.  14" to 16" of memory is cut and threaded with lovely shiny glass bi-cone shaped glass beads in a variety of colors.  The one below is Clear, Silver, Smoke, and Black combination.  May be made in single or multiple colors.  Soon to be available in the shop as well.

 

Also available in purples, blues, and pastel colors.

Description: This pearl necklace is handcrafted with freshwater pearls, cape amethyst and small glass beads.
This elegant piece of pearl and stone jewelry, is a delicate thin necklace that can give you more than an aesthetic look.
Freshwater pearls used for this necklace are ivory white and have an approx. lenght of 4mm and 5mm.

Cape amethyst is a translucent gemstone that ranges from light- to medium-purple and has white bands. Note that no cape amethyst stone bead is the same with another.

Amethyst Necklace Wire Wrapped Amethyst Crystal Pendant Necklace

 

Description: Amethyst natural crystal wire wrap pendant necklace, big pendant necklace, wire wrapped jewelry handmade.

I wire wrapped the beautiful lilac amethyst crystal (3*2cm - 1.18*0.78'') with silver plated wire. Two silver plated metal beads adorn the black cotton cord (6 strand) finished with silver plated lobster clasp.

This lovely necklace measures approx. 41.5cm (16.33'') around the neck and the extension chain is 6cm (2.36'') long.

Elegant Black Necklace 

 Description: I handcrafted this black necklace using black glass beads, a beautiful antique silver plated wire bead(2cm - 0.79''), two rondelle crystal ab beads, antique bali style silver plated beads, small silver plated metal beads, silver tone chain and a silver plated lobster clasp.

This extra modern black necklace measures approx. 46cm (18.11') all around and the hanging part (chain + wire bead) measures approx. 5cm (1.97'').
 
**Please note there is no extension chain.

Organza Flower Choker with Flower Pendant

Description: I handmade this lovely stylish organza choker necklace with a flower pendant (2.7cm - 1.06''), double black ribbon, silver plated beads and silver plated lobster clasp. There is a lovely wire wrap red coral bead and a metal feather hanging in front of the flower pendant.
This classy choker measures 42cm (16.54'') from one end to the other in a straight line.
The flower pendant is fine quality non-tarnish.

Celtic Knot Necklace with Brown Silk Cord and Green Geometric Bead 

 Description: This is a fine celtic knot necklace that looks fine on a woman's neck. I handcrafted this cletic piece of jewelry with a geometric green and gold stripe glass bead, gold plated wire and chain, and brown silk cord (3strands).
I finished the necklace with an elegant gold plated lobster clasp and extension chain.
This beautiful necklace measures approx.40cm (15.75'') around the neck and the gold plated extension chain is 6cm (2.36'') long.
