Good Morning,

Today's share is a video I found on line via Facebook.  Although the written language may look daunting the video is in English.

I would like to make two suggestions.

One:  Please do not try this at home unless you know what you are doing.  Have proper ventilation, fire extinguishers and a large open area that isn't next to anything flammable, like your house.

Two:  I have done a little research on this and it has come to my attention that melting soda cans and other aluminum objects can create or release a toxic gas during the melting process.  I would very much like to stress that if you wish to try something like this at home or studio to please research, study, or ask a local artisan if they have experience with this project and ask for assistance.

If you would like to try your hand at casting, there is a three part tutorial here on the blog Cuttle Bone Casting.  It uses household items and rosin core solder that you may find at any local hardware store.   The tutorial will take you from the start with materials, to the finished project.  You may choose any form to make, the steps are the important part, not the item.  I made a Stone Set Cross in the tutorial.

Moose Art Print, 8 x 10 inches of my original wall hanging. The original painting was made from a piece of cedar wood that I cut with a saw and sanded down by hand to get a nice soft feel and texture to paint on. I painted using acrylic paint and around the sides and back were created with a wood stain. I also wood burned into parts of the painting to give it more texture and accentuate parts of the painting.

Print size: 8 x 10 inches.

Inspiration, Where To FInd It

Good Morning,

I am once again out of artists to feature, so instead I thought it might be fun to share a game that has been going around on Facebook, as well as being helpful to get those creative juices flowing.

Social Media is a wonderful way to share your artwork, whether it be painting, sculpting, knitting, jewelry or what have you.  It is also wonderful for introducing to yourself to things, people or places you may never have thought of venturing to or meeting.

The Facebook game consisted of liking a post by a friend who had posted a photo of an artist's work, in turn that friend would give you an artist (name) to go discover and then you would post a photo of that artist's work, when people liked the photo you shared you then gave them an artist to go discover.  The idea was to fill Facebook with art, and for the most part it worked.

The best part for me was not only discovering new artists, but finding something about the piece that drew me to it, and with that, allowing my own creativity to play off what intrigued me about the piece.

I would encourage you to cruise the web, do a little search for whatever interests you that day, seek and find out what it is that speaks to you.

Today, I want to share another type of gift, something you can give to help another in their time of need.  There are lots of worthy charities, causes and other local groups and organizations in your area that are happy to take a donation.

ASPCA
You can make a monetary donation on line (just 60 cents a day can help a dog or cat) or perhaps visit or call your local shelter and ask if there is anything they may need, Pet Food, blankets, toys, perhaps a small monetary donation for things like medicines.  Let's not forget those less fortunate this year.





ONE WARM COAT

This site is geared towards kids, not everyone has a coat to keep them warm, especially children as they grow out of them so fast.  The link will take you to the site map, where, if you wish, you may type in your zip code to find a place to make your own coat donation.  Warm your heart by warming up a child with a coat this year.

This last one you'll have to do on your own.  Every once in a while lists are printed, published or put out somewhere for Seniors in Need, this could be anything from a bottle of lotion, to a warm blanket or any small item that may be beyond a Senior's means.  I encourage you to look though your local papers, open the phone book and find a hospice or other Senior Care facility, give them a call, make a note, then choose a Senior or several and purchase those small items that may be needed. It will make you feel good, and you will be giving the Senior a gift of more than just lotion.

Good Morning,

Although Summer is over here in Boise, the Thunderstorms have started and it rains almost daily, it also mean that school is back in and for many the repeated plaintive cry, "But there's nothing to do!"

Here's something to do with the whole family, just yourself, grab your friends, or make it a date.

Art in the Park

If you click through to the site, you can find a map of the Artists as well as other event times and information.  This a great big huge outdoor event, that includes a Beer Garden.

Although Little Shop of Artists is not attendance, we of the shop are intending to go this weekend.  Once we have the details of our visit, those will be posted.

There are other neat things to do in town this weekend as well, unfortunately the events are not listed on line.  Check the Boise, Weekly or the Idaho Statesman for a list of goings-on and happenings in your area.
