Featured Artist: Blackbird Metalworks
Good Morning,
Today we are going to try something a little different.
Blackbird Metalworks creates Fine Jewelry in sterling Silver and Genuine Gemstones, as well as recycling and up-cycling of your old jewelry.
Showcasing at Little Shop of Artists is a collection of select ready-to-wear pieces.
Let's take a look at some of the up-cycled items for sale.
Black Onyx and Sterling Silver Pendant $95.00
Created from a sterling Silver Money Clip, the metal has been re-worked and folded in the opposite direction and soldered closed. The Genuine Black Onyx stone was set by hand, the entire piece was hand polished and a chain added to create a pendant.
"Recyclabauble" - $40.00
Crafted from a broken Sterling Silver ring, the shank has been repaired and re-placed and the empty space for a stone has been filled with a pretty electric blue class marble, because it fit the setting. A US size 9 really is a fun ring to wear, it glows in the shadows and pops in the light.
Here, it is modeled by the designer.
There are other pieces available including necklaces, a very limited selection of Sterling Silver Earrings, Vintage and Handmade Rings, and other pieces like this repaired Vintage Swarovski Crystal Sterling Silver Plated ring in "Amethyst".

Five Great Gifts To Give List 24
Good Morning,
In the hustle and bustle of opening the shop I have been remiss in getting the blog out there. This week I will be playing catch up, expect two features and perhaps a random something or other as well.
Today we jump right back into the gifts for giving suggestions. We have some old favorites and a new shop or two. I am excited to showcase these wonderful items today. Somewhere along the way I have lost count, I beleive Number 24 is correct.

I also enjoy promoting someone that does good works out in the world and I am most pleased to feature these gorgeous Handmade Earrings with benefits.
From: Butterfly Sundries
What makes you think of hope, strength, beauty and the ability to overcome difficult circumstances? For me, the images which come to mind are of lotus flowers.
These beautiful earrings were inspired by those women who have the courage to, despite difficult circumstance, look within themselves to find their own strength and beauty... who discover their ability to embrace their power to stand up for their hopes, even in the ugliest of situations.
This is a Butterfly Sundries original design, straight out of my own sketchbook; you won't find this earring set elsewhere! They were designed to match the lotus pendant, seen in the last picture of this listing (not included in this listing; you must purchase it separately)!
Made from 22g copper wire, all the petals on these earrings have been made with a single piece of wire. A wire connection is then made to allow for the "water" (glass bead) droplet to hang below the wire lotus. You get to choose the color of the drop! Hung from handmade 22g copper earring wires, all the connections are handmade.
Copper does, of course, over time develop an attractive patina. This is part of the beauty of the material. Expect the beautiful patina to develop over time.
The earrings measure at about 1.5 inches, from the base of the earring hook; their width is about 1 inch.
From beginning to end, these earrings are handmade with love... with all the attention you deserve!
*Please note* Because these earrings are completely handmade, and made to order, please expect slight variations. The earrings you see pictured above are one sample of the design. The earrings you receive, while the same design, may differ slightly in the leaf shape.
This item comes with a FREE white gift box, for your gift-giving pleasure!
This item gives more! Because this item was inspired by YWCA of Kitsap County, one of my former Featured Charities, a portion of the proceeds still goes to support that program IN ADDITION TO the 10% which goes to the current Featured Charity. Wow; what an opportunity to support two charities with your purchase!
*Pre-fabricated niobium ear wires are also available for those with metal allergies. If you would like this modification (please be aware the ear wires will not exactly match the color of the copper) please add the niobium ear wires to your order; they are listed in the "Customization" section of my shop found here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ButterflySundries?section_id=13414025.
*Wish you could order this item in gold or silver? You can! I love this design and would be happy to discuss a custom order for you! Just send me a message with your preferred metal, we can work out the details, and I'll be happy to create a custom listing for you. :)
If you like these earrings, you might also love the matching pendant/necklace! You can find it here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/121256742/ooak-handmade-copper-wire-lotus-pendant
From: I Paint It Pretty
This is a set of two 16 ounce margarita glasses. The stem of each glass is a bright green cactus. Each glass has been hand painted with three bright flowers in red, yellow, and pink. The flowers have little dashes of accent color. Green leaves with a touch of shimmer make these glasses sparkle. These would be a fun and unique housewarming or shower gift. Or have a little fun and treat yourself. Remember, it's 5:00 somewhere.
These glasses were painted with non-toxic acrylic enamel so they are perfectly safe to use. I heat set the paint so it is quite durable. The manufacturer of the paint states 'top rack dishwasher safe', I would highly suggest gentle hand wash, just as you would any other special piece you may have.
Great effort has gone into accurately describing and photographing products, but please note color representation alters depending on individual screen settings.
Packaged with lots of care and love and will ship 1-2 days after payment is received.
Thanks for taking a look. Check back as I add items as I complete them.

Thursday's Featured Artist - The Alchemist
Good Morning,
Thursday has arrived and I am out of Featured Artists, again. I was the last person in the Blog Ring to be listed for a post. I can't very well post about myself, well I could, but the blog features The Alchemist (that would be me) every day. So what's a girl to do?
Instead of talking about myself, because that could lead to questions about the state of my mental health, I think we'll talk about what every artist uses as a tool, the hands.
Hands are amazing things, they are the first tools we learn to use. Dexterity does not come naturally, your hands must be taught to move and cooperate in concert with each other, whether they are holding a pencil or strumming a guitar, they must be trained to do what you are asking of them.
Hand and wrist health (especially for Maillers) is very important, if I hurt or injure my hands I can not work, it is just that simple. I require both the left and right to do things, pick up beads, hold pliers and other materials, to string, solder, bend pieces, etc... all steps in making a piece of jewelry require that I use my hands.
Before I begin any piece or long sit at the workbench, I exercise my hands, I stretch them, spread and flex my fingers wide; roll, twist, bend my wrist gently to loosen up those muscles. Small repetitive movements can cause injury to the muscles and worse Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Here is a link to some exercises for your hands
Carpal Tunnel Exercises. I highly recommend these for anyone that has to type, use tools or for jewelry makers.
You do not need to hold a Death Grip on any of the tools you use, that tool is only going to do what your hands tell it to, a loose grasp will hold the tool, your hand movements do the rest.
Treat your hands with kindness and they will serve you for a long long time.
Thank you for stopping in and having a read.

Studio Time - Class Projects from Jo-Ann Fabrics
Hello and Happy Wednesday!
As many of you know I occasionally have the pleasure of teaching / instructing a class at Jo-Ann's Fabrics, and also involved in the process of getting my own classes started up as well.
Today I thought we would take a brief look at a Jo-Ann's Class Project. All the materials for these were purchased at Jo-Ann Fabrics, 1085 Milwaukee, Boise, ID.
Dare To Dangle Earrings
Class Session: 1
2 Hours
Skill Level: 2
Jo-Ann's List of Materials:

FRONT
Stone Chips are threaded on to a length of wire (Sterling Silver Plated Copper in 22 Gauge). The wire is twisted back on itself to form a loop, adding one Stone Chip at a time, the bead and wire wrap around the base stones to form a cluster. Simple, pretty and may be done in any color or selection of Stone Chip Beads. These are genuine Semi-Precious stones and include, Fluorite, Amethyst, Rose Quartz, Aquamarine, and other varieties of quartz.
BACK
This is a super simple and easy project that makes a cute pair of earrings. I like this project because it is totally "organic" and very primitive in nature. The Craft-person decides on stones and designs the earrings as they go along, the wire wraps naturally (where it wants to) around the beads dictated by the bead shape, creating and additional element to the design. Class Space for this project and others are still available. This Saturday, June 9th, 1:00pm - 3:00pm, Jo-Ann Fabrics will be having an "Open House" classes are 50% Off for in-store registration, and completed projects will be on display!
There will also be other projects on display as well as other instructors and Jo-Ann team members are always there to help!
Other Projects Available - August
"Crystal Life Bracelet" - using Swarovski elements
"Pearls of Time Watch" - using Glass Pearls and a Watch Face
"Pearl" Earrings -using wire and a Glass Pearls to match the Watch.
There is one more pair of earrings that classes will be given for as well. Come on down and check it out.
Thank you for stopping by.

An Announcement
I know, Tuesday's are usually reserved for Five Great Gifts To Give, but it is good to change things up every now and again. Need to keep you all on your toes. We will have a gift idea post this week, I promise.
The Alchemists Vessel is pleased to announce that the owner and principle designer, Alixandra, will be returning classes next month. Always interested in updating her skills, learning about new materials and machines currently out on the gemstone and lapidary jewelry suppliers market, as well as obtaining certification for precious metals, repair, gemstone / metal testing equipment, and general jewelry-smith training. Also on the list of continued education is lamp-work or glass bead crafting.
Continuing education is an important part of keeping up with today's market. If one expects to succeed, one must continually polish and up grade their skills and general knowledge of available materials; new, old, and in some cases the new composites currently out on the market. Current trends and fashion styles may dictate color and components used, they are strong contributors to the creation process, as are new tools, treatments and techniques. All play a part in creating beautiful, unique, durable and sustainable hand crafted jewelry.
Costume or Fine, Folk Art or Artisan, adornment / jewelry or other accessories, have been a staple of trade, social interaction and celebrations in many cultures across our world. The fascination continues today, and there is a certain satisfaction in making something beautiful with your own hands. Self taught or classroom trained, each hand and eye bring their own flair and sense of balance to a piece. Sculpture, paintings, landscape, home decor, all have a rhythm and flow that make them work and the same applies to jewelry. Sparks of light and flashes of color draws the eye, intrigues the observer, and delights the wearer. It appeals to a variety of tastes from bold and bright, to delicate, feminine and understated. Great jewelry design is always in style and can be worn with a multitude of things and never loses its emphasis or over powers the wearer or outfit. Jewelry as an accent, can also be the main attraction.
Thank you for stopping by and having a look.

Friday Promotions and Links
Happy Friday to all!
Let me begin with the Jewelry Contest. Although it was a complete and utter flop, (perhaps it was the piece offered), there is a winner, and Second place is a tie. With Facebook changing the Fan / Business pages, I am having trouble finding all the posts. I will get to the announcement next week!
It's that time again! The Treasure Valley Flea Market is next weekend, March 24 and 25th, Saturday and Sunday. There is only one more in April. Come on down and meet the artists, have a look at some of the jewelry pieces shown on the site, see what there is to see, and find your something. 5610 Glenwood, In Garden City, Idho Expo at the Fair Grounds. See the Google Map at the bottom of the blog for location and directions, admission is $2.00 at the door.
Due to some customers feeling uncomfortable purchasing from the The Alchemists Vessel website, I have been asked, and have complied, to list the Ravens Nook items on Etsy. I have done so. They are under the Shop Section Ravens Nook, and all the items from the website may be found there as well. If the darker things do well, I may go ahead and open up a second shop for just the darker things, although Etsy frowns on such a thing.
We also have a new third party app (widget) here on the blog. Now you can shop The Alchemists Vessel and all it's listings on the side bar menu. No need to leave the page, and all transactions are secure!
For the Pinterest Users out there. Pinterest has a dashboard, Pinerly, that I have gotten a sneak peak at (Thank you Cindy Honig-Fong, for clicking!) It looks very useful and I would like one. The link below will take you to the invitation page, where you can get your own unique code, copy and paste it for your friends to click and get an invitation too. Pinterest Dash Board or

A Featured Website
Usually on Thursday's I try to feature an artist or something that is unique and interesting. I would love it if those that read the blog (or just know it exists) would like to participate by sending me bios and links to your products, artworks, jewelry, whatever, and we can feature you and get you out to the masses or at least a new audience!
Today's featured site is a new one that I have come across called "Pinterest". Many of you that have an Etsy account may have seen the new button "Pin It". This is a direct link to the Pinterest site, like clicking the F for Like on Facebook or the +1 for Google.
Pinterest in currently an invitation only sign up. I can invite friends! If Delicious is for links than Pinterest is for pictures. Set up like a bulletin or cork-board, you can "pin" things you like on to separate boards, create categories on anything, and save these things on your Pinterest Boards. You can look at, share and "re-pin" other users finds and boards as well. I am unsure if you can view the boards without an account, but the link to mine is below. I just started yesterday so I don't have much "pinned" yet. If you would like an invitation, please e-mail or leave a comment here. Or follow the link and sign up at the page. All that is required is an e-mail address. They do ask that you sign in with Facebook, you cannot, however, directly pin things from Facebook to Pinterest, which is stupid, but that's the way it works.
They do ask that you do not use the boards for self promotion and this where your friends and networking comes in! You may pin something that you made, sure, but do not use the boards to sell, promote or push yourself, your items or other things down the throats of others. Get your friends organized, pin each others items, products, whatever to each others boards. You will not only get views but an entirely new group of people will see your stuff!
**NOTE: Edited by the author the correct site for links is Delicious, not Digg. I apologize. All is right now.

In My Studio - Charms and Parts
This morning I would like to share some the cool components I use in crafting and creating. Some are purchased from a local supplier here in town, others were purchased from Pims Supplies on Etsy. With the market coming up this weekend, production has been put on hold in favor of packing and preparing for the Public! We have things in the works at the Vessel, never fear!
We have some new Brass components in the studio. Never be afraid to shop your local stores for unique and interesting finds like this brass Octopus Locket with a magnetic closure. We have several new items with a sea theme.
Some of the cutest charms I have seen for jewelry in a long time are these brass Filigree or latticed Fish / Dolphin charms. For the Earring Pair "Fishing Gear", soon to be available on Etsy, these were purchased from Pims Supplies. Her shop has wonderful things! Give it a look see!
Requested by a friend for a Frog Bracelet, I have found these adorable Sterling Silver Plated Frog Prince charms, and you just know I bought a lot more than one design! A local supply store find! Soon to be available in the shop charm bracelets, earrings and perhaps a necklace or two with Swans, and Dragons, and Airplanes, and Frog Princes!
Last but not least in an effort to continue to bring new things to the shop, The Alchemists Vessel will be offering custom Chain Maille watch bands and complete Watches. First up to be chained will be this one, a Unisex style square watch face. Stainless Steel with a fresh new battery.
Just a gentle reminder, the Market is this weekend! 5610 Chinden Blvd., at the Fair Grounds, Expo Idaho Building! Admission is $2.00 at the door, and there are lots of cool booths to check out and shop!

What's New In The Shop? (Photo-packed!)
Today we are going to show case some of the items in the new Shop section: Supplies. These are de-stash items and quantities are limited. Check out Wednesday's, 2/15/12, blog "In My Studio" for some of the new inventory and materials we have in stock to create more beautiful things for you! These items are for sale via the internet only!
These are cute, useful and multi-purpose. Antiqued Silver Bead Ends / Knot Hiders, these little accent finishers come in three styles, Swirl Pattern and Star Shaped, the third is a smooth ball with a crescent stamped into the side of the metal (not shown). Add a little secret to your necklace or bracelet clasps. Great for small gauge Wire, Tiger Tail, and thread, or connecting thread or wire built sections on to chain!!!!
Star-shape
Next we have these wonderful Sterling Silver Zodiac Sign charms, perfect for earrings, necklace or bracelet accents. All twelve signs are here and stamped 925 on the back. The set includes all 12 signs, packaged separately in 20 count bags, each bag contains 20 or more jump rings. That's 240 pieces plus additional materials. An over purchase, I would like to share at a discounted rate.
Brick red, and rust colors are in this year, and nothing says brick red like Cinnabar. Styled with Chinese Motifs there is a set of 2 Dragons, 2 Fu Lions and 6 Chinese Character beads. All are carved on either side and range from 1" to 1-5/8" tall. Sold individually, why not try pairing them together. These are sure to make a statement in any piece they adorn.
Cinnabar Fu Lion pair - 1-1/2" x 1'3/4" - He comes with a buddy!
Chinese Character Rectangular beads
We have one assortment of Glass Leaf-shaped beads left. Comes in a 12 color variety, and differing counts, not a bag under four leaves.
We also some fun base metal things. Triangles with a Celtic or mid-eastern feel swirl design and very cute filagree or cut-out heart circular earring findings. Comes in sets of five and three pair.
I have to save a few surprises for the shop! Feel free to click on through and see what else is listed. There are gemstones, red coral (dyed), more silver plated findings to help you create that special piece or bring your jewelry vision to fruition!
Thank you for stopping by and having a read.
