Malachite Braided Sterling Silver Ring, 8mm x 10mm Natural Malachite, Handmade, Size 6.5

Malachite:
This copper ore features a characteristic banding pattern of deep and pale green stripes or concentric circles. Because it is formed in thin layers, large pieces are somewhat rare.

Malachite gets its name from the Greek word molokhe (mallow) because of the resemblance of its color to that of the leaves of the mallow plant.

Egyptians used malachite as early as 4000 B.C. for amulets, jewelry and cosmetics (powdered eye shadow).

For this ring I hand braided the band from solid sterling silver wire then soldered the band and securely soldered the sterling silver bezel cup to the top of the band. After cleaning and polishing the ring I hand set the 8mm x 10mm natural Malachite cabochon into the serrated edge bezel cup.

Featured Artist - A Bead Thing

Today I am honored to share the work of a very talented and very busy lady, Pam Andrews of A Bead Thing.  You have met Pam before here on the blog, and she still creates some wonderful items.  Showcasing her items on Handmade Aritsts, it is always a pleasure to see my friend's new work in the listings on the home page or reading her funny and poignant posts in the forum.

Pam has expanded her talents beyond jewelry and has Incorporated quilling into her artists repertoire.  Quilling is the art of curling paper and forming three dimensional sculptures.  Pam has updated this art by using it to make hair accessories.  Clever!

Pretty in Pink Paper Flowers

Product Details:

This hair clip is created using the age old art of quilling and I have used 1/4 inch paper strips in a variety of colors ranging from dark pink to coral to simulate the various colors and stages of flowers bloom.  Flower is attached to 1.5 inch alligator clip and glass pearl beads have been added for beauty and dimension. 
Flower has also been coated for durability and it will withstand damp hair but of course stay out of the rain showers.

Handcrafted Chenille Princes Necklace

Product Details:
Handmade lovely princess length necklace created using a "chenille" stitch. This is very similar to the herringbone stitch, using 15/0 seed beads in "matte teal" and "metallic brass".  Necklace is 19 inches from clasp end to clasp end.  A flared filigree bead cap has been modified to form around the end of the neckace on either end to attach the clasp. This necklace is lightweight and flexible and will be a joy to wear or give as a unique handmade gift.

 

The blog ring theme this time around is Emerald Green, and this bracelet is really amazing and very pretty with the green surrounded by the gold.

Crochet Flower Necklace

Product Details:

This flower necklace is a crochet project using burgandy and bright yellow acrylic yarn.  I have also used a light fern green acrylic for the stems and leaves.  
This is a delight to wear and can be worn as choker with stems and leaves falling down or loosen so that the stems and leaves are closer to flower for a more draped effect.

Guinevere Chainmaille Necklace New Item

Good Morning,

Monday is here, the work week is ahead, and there are five days to get it all right.  Due to a personal situation the blog will be short and not very detailed for these next couple of weeks.  Sometimes you get so busy taking care of business that you forget to take care of yourself, and that can cause down time for the artist.

This morning's item is very pretty and rather neat.   Available on Etsy: Guinevere.

The chain is woven in two patterns Round and Inverted Round Maille weaves.  Genuine Australian Green Jasper beads are secreted in the chain and accent the main focal point of the necklace.  Silver Rings are also tucked here and there to add stability and another design element the piece.

Most Maille pieces will lay flat, this one has some dimension to it, as the Round Maille weave actually "stands-up" when the piece is worn, giving it a unique and very pretty lace-like look.

Detail can be seen here, a Green Jasper bead has been tucked inside the chain, just a couple of links below are silver rings, captured in the weave.

Detail of focal point, the genuine Jasper beads are a lovely greenish-blue with deeper green inclusions across the surface of the stone.  These are very pretty and may be mistaken for turquoise on occasion. 

 18-1/2" total length, the piece rests just along the decolletage (decollete) making an attractive collar to jazz up that stuffy Professional Office attire or a dazzling accessory for Date Night.  Also appropriate for period costumes, film, stage and event attire.

Customizable, may be made to desired length or with different beads.  There are two more versions on the workbench awaiting finishing touches, as well as to be photographed for listing and sale.

In My Studio - Fashion Colors for the Year

Good Morning,

Today I thought we might look at some of the things that drive the fashion industry, and like it or not, jewelry is part of that weird world of models and run ways.

This year the powers that be in the Fashion Industry have decided that Green is the must have color for 2013.  And not just any green, oh no, it has to be Emerald Green, a light, translucent and beautiful natural color.

Raw Emerald

Pantone, makers of Printers Ink even has a variation of the color.

The Alchemists Vessel is no stranger to this lovely color.  Not only is Emerald the owners Birthstone, it is also one of her favorite colors, and has been incorporated into some of the pieces created by Alixandra, long before the Fashion Industry said so.
